Ire

/ee-REH/

Ire refers to blessings, good fortune, and all forms of positive destiny in Yorùbá cosmology, representing the favorable alignment of one's path with divine will.

Types of Ire

Traditional Ifá wisdom identifies multiple categories of ire, including ire ajé (blessing of wealth), ire ọmọ (blessing of children), ire aíkú (blessing of longevity), and ire ogún (blessing of victory). Each category represents a fundamental dimension of human flourishing that practitioners seek through divination and proper spiritual alignment.

Ire in Divination

During Ifá consultation, the diviner determines whether the odù that appears carries ire or ibi (misfortune). When ire is indicated, the client learns which specific blessings are available and what offerings or actions will help secure them. The identification of ire brings relief and provides a roadmap for actualizing one's positive potential.

Spiritual Significance

Ire is not merely passive luck but an active state requiring cultivation through righteous living, proper veneration of orí (one's inner head), and maintenance of harmonious relationships with both the visible and invisible worlds. The pursuit of ire represents the fundamental human aspiration toward alignment with àṣẹ, the divine creative force.
