In Yorùbá cosmology, Ọ̀run Rere represents the blessed abode reserved for those who fulfilled their earthly destiny (àyànmọ́) and maintained good character (ìwàpẹ̀lẹ̀) throughout their lives. This realm is characterized by perpetual tranquility, abundance, and proximity to the divine presence. Ancestors residing in Ọ̀run Rere become elevated spirits capable of interceding on behalf of their living descendants.
Attaining Ọ̀run Rere
Entry into Ọ̀run Rere is determined by how one lived on earth—specifically through ethical conduct, fulfillment of social responsibilities, and proper veneration of the Òrìṣà and ancestors. Those who die young or under tragic circumstances, or who lived wickedly, may find themselves in less favorable spiritual realms. The funeral rites performed by the living also influence the deceased's journey and ultimate spiritual destination.
