/ah-SHEH/
Definition
The vital life force, divine energy, and authority that permeates all things. It is the power to make things happen and produce change.
Cosmic Energy
Àṣẹ is often described as the fundamental life force of the universe, given by Olódùmarè (the Supreme Creator) to everything—gods, ancestors, humans, animals, plants, and even inanimate objects. It is the divine current that makes existence possible.
Spiritual Authority
Beyond mere energy, Àṣẹ also signifies authority and the power of the spoken word. When an elder or priest utters an invocation or blessing, they release Àṣẹ to manifest the intent into reality. Thus, speech is considered a potent vehicle for Àṣẹ.
