There are said to be 401 Òrìṣà, each representing distinct elements of the natural world and human character. For example, Ṣàngó embodies lightning and justice, while Ọbàtálá embodies creation and purity.
Intermediaries
While Olódùmarè is the ultimate creator, the Òrìṣà handle the daily administration of the universe. Devotees cultivate reciprocal relationships with them through prayer, alignment, and Ẹbọ (sacrifice) to bring balance to their personal lives and communities.
